Movement Therapy
“Life is movement. Without movement, life is unthinkable.”
– Moshe Feldenfrais
Motion Is Lotion!
At The Health Formula, we believe that movement is a foundational pillar for achieving optimal health. Simply put, life cannot exist without motion! Therefore, restoring your body’s natural capacity for movement is of utmost importance to us.
Dr Rick Davids is one of only a handful of Osteopaths in Australia trained in the principles of Applied Functional Science (AFS) – a novel movement-based approach to rehabilitation developed by renowned physiotherapists Dr Gary Gray and Dr David Tiberio.
AFS is an effective treatment approach for a variety of musculoskeletal ailments and sporting injuries. It combines hands-on treatment with active and functional movements to simultaneously stretch and strengthen areas of your body in an integrated way.
When working with Dr Rick you can expect a blend of table based hands-on treatment combined with up-right movement-based rehabilitation, either in the ‘True Stretch’ (AKA The Cage!) or in the gym space… so have those exercise shorts ready!
Rick will typically progress you through three phases:
– Analysis
– Rehabilitation
– Performance
Analysis
This involves a comprehensive evaluation of your three-dimensional movement capacity using authentic movements that relate to real-life functional activities (think walking, squatting, lunging, balancing and reaching). This provides a thorough screen of your body’s major joint complexes, including your feet, ankles, knees, hips, spine and shoulders. This will quickly identify any biomechanical impairments that may predispose you to injury and impede your athletic performance.
Rehabilitation
Following analysis we commence rehabilitation, working on stretching your tight areas and strengthening your weak links. As The Health Formula is located within Integrate Training, Dr Rick has access to their awesome gym facilities and exercise equipment. This allows him to observe and provide feedback on your lifting technique, giving you the confidence you need to get back to training independently.
Performance
Following completion of your rehabilitation, you have the opportunity to enhance your function towards higher levels of performance through our Clinical Strength sessions. Here you can continue to build your strength with an individualised exercise programme in a safe and supportive environment.
Dr Rick also works closely alongside Integrate’s team of experienced personal trainers, so if you’re interested in continued support with your training he can refer you on once your work with him is complete.
