What Is Chronic Pain?

Pain is said to be chronic if it persists beyond the normal tissue healing time of about three months. After this time your tissues are generally fully healed, yet pain can persist. This is because your nervous system can become overly sensitive, amplifying messages to your brain, leading to feelings of pain even when there is no longer any tissue damage. 

So what causes your nervous system to become overly sensitive in the first place? Chronic pain is complex and multifactorial with many underyling causes and influencing factors. Our beliefs and expectations, high stress levels, lack of sleep and physical activity, inflammatory diseases and poor diet & lifestyle choices… It’s these factors that ultimately prime our nervous system to become unduly sensitive.
