Chronic Pain

1 in 4 Australians live with chronic pain. That’s a staggering figure! It’s likely then that you, or someone you know, faces each day with the disability of pain…. a feeling that can cast a shadow over almost every aspect of your life. Chronic pain can reduce your physical activity, limit your ability to work, impact relationships and suck the enjoyment out of life. Often, the worst aspect for chronic pain sufferers it that there is no visible marks or evidence of their pain, so they are left feeling alone and judged by those who don’t believe them.

You are NOT alone! At The Health Formula, we understand what you are going through and are here to help.

What Is Chronic Pain?

Pain is said to be chronic if it persists beyond the normal tissue healing time of about three months. After this time your tissues are generally fully healed, yet pain can persist. This is because your nervous system can become overly sensitive, amplifying messages to your brain, leading to feelings of pain even when there is no longer any tissue damage.

So what causes your nervous system to become overly sensitive in the first place? Chronic pain is complex with many contributors and influencing factors. Your thoughts, beliefs and expectations, stress levels and quality of sleep, your level of physical activity, diet & lifestyle choices, even your sense of social connection can all influence the sensitivity of your nervous system to pain, for better or worse.
